Cool sites I found: Cool Math
(This site has cool things. You can learn about any topic in algebra. You can also play games. There is site for teachers too.)
Visual Math Learning
(this site is also good to lake lessons, exercises and games, etc.)
A-A-A Math
(in this site you can learn things, pick the topic and the grade level you want.)
Graphing Calculator
(you can use this website to see the graph and table of an equation. For the table you can also type in a number in X to see the amount in Y)
Variables and PatternsBig Idea:Observation and description of changes in the world around us are the first steps in finding and learning about patterns.
Investigation 2 Essential Question:What are some situations that we can describe as variable?
Notes from class
n/0 = undefined
The x-axis stays the same --> consistent intervals
If the time increases --> distance increases
Connecting the points on coordinate graph makes it easier to see the patterns, differences and relationships between 2 variable.
It also helps us to read the graph
We should connect continuous
We should not connect discontinuous
New vocabulary
Word
Definition
Coordinate pair
An ordered pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate graph.
Class Discussions Tables:
Pro's
Con's
Gives exact numerals
Easier to construct
You can add columns to compare
Not easy to "see" differences
Graphs:
Pro's
Con's
You can find patterns visually
It is difficult to read the exact data
Problem 2.4 Day 4- Chincoteague Island to Norfolk On day 4, the group traveled from Chincoteague Island to Norfolk, Virginia. Norfolk is a major base for the United States Navy Atlantic Fleet. Malcolm and Sarah rode the van. They forgot to record the didtance traveled each half hour, but they did write some notes about the trip.
Malcolm and Sarah's Notes
We started at 8:30 A.M and rode into a strong until our midmorning break.
About midmorning, the wind shifted to our backs.
We stopped for lunch at a barbeque stand and rested for about an hour by this time, we had traveled about halfway to Norfolk.
At around 2:00 P.M., we stopped fro a brief swim in the ocean.
At around 3:30 P.M., we had reached the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. We stopped for few minutes to watch the ships passing by. Since bikes are prohibited on the bridge, the riders put their bikes in the van, and we drove across the bridge.
We took 7 and a 1/2 hours to complete today's 80 mile trip.
A) Make a table of (time, distance) data that reasonably fits the information in Malcolm and Sara's notes. ~Here is the table that shows information from Malcolm and Sarah's notes.

B) Sketch a coordinate graph that shows the same information. ~The graph below shows the same information from the table and the notes.
2.4 Follow Up~ Explain how you used each of the six notes to help you make your table and graph.I used the 6 notes to help me make my coordinate graph and table. I took the main ideas and made data table from it. I first started with 0 miles on 8:30A.M. Then, I added 3-5 miles until midmorning, which is 10:30 A.M., 2 hours later. I followed the notes and made sure that it fit with my table and graph. At the end, I finished the number of miles with 80 miles.
